VoIP Over 3G?

Voice over Internet Protocol or VoIP will most likely be available on 3G networks sooner than many think in the United States according to VoIP insiders.  Our UK friends are already experiencing this great technology- the UK based carrier “3” is the only one offering direct Skype calling on their cellular network.  However, those utilizing this service must have a “Skype” phone in order to use this service.  Imagine being able to actually see those you’re talking to on your 3G device?  Imagine being able to use the Internet for transfer of cell phone calls?    The question is when will this VoIP over 3G conversions take place and what type of headset or 3G technology will you need to get your VoIP on!

The Internet telephony world will most likely see the debut of VoIP over 3G in the private world prior to making its debut in the business world.  Talk on the street is that Verizon’s network is first in line to host Skype over their 3G networks.  Those in the business aren’t sure if Verizon will make some type of download available for their current headsets or if they will simply make a new phone with Internet telephony availability.  Regardless, those that have seen or have heard about VoIP over 3G are excited and beside themselves.  This means no more overages or paying roaming fees- pretty great, aye?

Another name getting into the VoIP over 3G arenas includes Apple.  According to sources in the field of Internet telephony business- Apple has recently decided to lift the ban on transmitting voice over IP traffic across the AT&T network.  There’s talk that this technology comes with their release of the 3.2 SDK on the iPad.  However, those with the iPhone and other Apple 3G gadgets may see spillover.

VoIP and Internet telephony is no doubt the future for businesses; allowing them to combine all their communication mediums into one networking system.  Not only will this save businesses money in the long run; by systematically combining communication into Internet telephony services- businesses will see more features and capabilities than they have ever seen in the last 20 years.

Imagine having limitless minutes and limitless calling areas- that’s what VoIP over 3G will mean to everyone that has a cell phone or a 3G device.  There are of course lot’s of quirks and security issues that will no doubt have to be worked out; especially prior to making its Internet telephony introduction into business’s 3G world- but it’s a start.  And for all those that thought VoIP was another SegWay- wrong!  Looks like VoIP is the future for private and business communication technology!  Be sure to watch the headlines and visit your favorite tech websites for future information on the world of VoIP over 3G- it’s a great thought and hopefully a soon to be ever greater reality for those of us in the states!
